Week 4 Reflection
- While reviewing your week’s learning in this course, what new ideas are you taking away that will help advance your professional practice?
Some of the new ideas I am taking away this week deal directly with AI, such as ChatGPT and Khanmigo. After watching the TED talk on Khanmigo, I was really impressed with the notion of AI as a tutor for students. The AI's ability to assume the personality of a character from a book and then converse with a student in real time, providing answers to questions about their in novel decisions, and their motivation, is amazing. It isn't something I would even think of AI doing. Also, from reading and collaborating with my peers, I learned a little more about ChatGPT. Its level of response enhances with the level and depth of information you ask it. For example, you can ask ChatGPT to answer a question so that a certain grade level would understand the response. I think that's an important distinction to make when using AI, as responses may be at a reading level that most students do not understand. I will definitely be introducing these into my class this coming year.
- As you reflect on your new learning, what does it remind you of from your prior experience? Describe potential connections between your learning and coding in education.
This week really reminded me that the phrase, "You don't know what you don't know," still applies with this ever changing world of technology, especially. I haven't had much interest in AI in previous years, mainly because I have seen all of the Terminator films, and I'm like WTH people. But really, I am not a tech savvy person so interest has been low. But after skimming through this weeks work it is truly remarkable. And the fact that developers are concerned with their impact on education is promising. I think I am just at the tip of the iceberg. I have laid down my first code, and I am starting to see results. I think as I dive further into AI, I will continue to make strides toward being proficient enough to keep up.
